I looked at the verification site p411 that has been mentioned a lot and the cost is no small drop in the bucket even though it's annual this will probably be a 1 time thing for me so I'm not sure if it's worth it or not. Also how do you know if they are a member of a particular screening service, just ask them? What else can I expect from a screening? Considering first time

I would NEVER call a gentleman's place of employment, as I have other less intrusive methods of verifying gentlemen who wish to arrange a date.
Screening services are great, by many ladies such as myself, will still ask for more personal information, before accepting a date.
The bottom line is that you need to only part with information you feel comfortable with.

they will do something perfectly harmless, like reminding you of an upcoming appointment with your doctor. Once they are switched to your extension, they will likely hang up. They now know you do, in fact, work there, and are not LE. They may do more, each lady has her own way of verifying that you are not LE and are safe to see. They will contact your references, if you have any. They may verify your phone number, if possible, or contact a verification site if you to belong to any.

I thought it might be a one time thing for me as well but it turned out I was wrong. Regarding costs, I consider TER VIP and P411 membership money well spent. The information gained by having these services is invaluable. You can read all the TER reviews and joining P411 provides you with additional info for all kinds of quality women and makes screening from them incredibly easy. I would rather give some personal info to a company based in Canada then to multiple providers. All this for the combined cost of about $32 per month when bought yearly. Look at it like drinking and driving. Yes it costs more to take a cab than to roll the dice and drive but the cab costs are minuscule compared to the costs, hassle, and embarrassment of getting a DUI. What are the costs of seeing a provider who you are not happy with for whatever reason or worse yet being entangled in the legal system because you didn't have enough info to make good choices. It's an easy decision.
I want to sign up and be verified with P411 but don't want to pay using Credit card. Spouse might suspect billing details. I'd appreciate it if anyone can suggest other options for me to get verified?
