Re: I get tested through my ob/gyn once a year, and through Planned Parenthood .....

No, my GP isn't aware, but then my testing frequency isn't based on her opinion :)  The reason I asked wasn't to be insulting, or to pry.    I asked because if you rely on a professionals advice who doesn't have all the facts then you can't rely on their opinion that's based on those incomplete facts.  Since that opinion was the reason the prior poster used as to the frequency of testing, I asked about it.  If it came off differently that wasn't my intent at all.

As to the standard, I'm not aware of any official one from the medical community (I'd love a link from cdc or some other similar in regards to people with many partners), but what I am aware of is here in the states it looks like porn stars are going from once a month testing to every 14 days.  Nevada does once a month. On the other hand, in Australia where they require prostitutes to be tested once a month they are instead looking to change this to once a quarter (article attached).

To sum, it seems like the jury is out.  3 months seems like an accepted number in many places, 1/month in others, still shorter in others.  I fall in between those numbers, but anywhere in that spectrum seems ok with me.  It would depend a lot on your exposures during that given time frame and whether you have a SO that's unknowingly taking that risk with you

Last time I wen to my family doctor, he ordered only two blood test. He said if you don't have symptoms then you don't have
to.  But I remember someone mentioned places for parenting or gays that can do a whole set of test. What are they? Thanks.

By the way, how often you do the test ? And how often you hobby ? Thanks for your input.  It will help me to make a schedule.  Thanks.

I usually use cuttingedgetesting.com (it's local to me).  A good source for finding a place near you is porn stars, they know places that are cheap, easy, efficient and they aren't at all surprised as to why you are there.

Lately I see 2-3 girls a month.  One very regular, one semi regular and the last is whatever whim strikes me.  I'm aware that the two I see most regularly also get tested (have seen results), otherwise I'd probably go monthly.

.....quarterly.  I used to go every other month, but many std's stay dormant for quite some time, and my ob/gyn told me that every three months is just fine.

Is your OB/gyn aware of your profession?

I just used STD Express.com.. Local lab.. results in 3 days.. soemthing like tests for 8 different things.. Not cheap.. $295... not bad for piece of mind.. I had nothing.. never had symptoms.. but not a bad thing to do every once in a while

Any one has compared planned parenthood with other provider ?

Thanks for all your input

std.about.com  Plug your zip code in and it will give you a list of available facilities.  Private pay, insurance or slide scale fee for service type.

I looked around on that website but could not find the zip code lookup you are referring to.  Do you have a URL that goes right to the page?

Many cities big enough to have a Health Dept (e.g., New York, but many smaller cities, too), sometimes offer testing through their clinics.  In a big city, there are many small clinics so you can go out of your neighborhood.  Smaller cities, I don't know.  I guess it could be embarrassing to go to the clinic and see your neighbor at the receptionist's desk:

"Hi, what are you doing here?"
"Uh, ... wrong door ... I was aiming for the MiniMart next door to buy a magazine."
"How did you get up here to the third floor?"
"Uh, I thought, maybe, their high class magazines were on an upper level."

Of course, you might take a different approach:

"Hi, what are you doing here?"
"I've been bangin' your daughter and I'm a little concerned about her rash so I'm here for a test.

Your GP/ob-gym should always have a reason to be compelled to perform full panel test. Yes, health care providers may judge for the truth behind this industry. He or she should know that non-monogamy is a main factor. If you want to deflect from yourself, you can say that your significant other is not monogamous with you.
