BWI would be your best bet.

The hobbying public prefers that area. Make a point of booking a hotel that is enclosed. A lot of guys don't like motor court design hotels.

Good morning! A quick question. My doubles partner and I are considering coming to the area next month for a day or two just to try it out. We have a few friends from the area that drive down to the DC area to see us but we did not just want their opinions because naturally the majority would suggest something close to them. Where is a good business oriented area to get our hotel while there? We would prefer something similar to Tyson's Corner in VA/DC. Our goal of course is to find something as convenient for everybody as possible. Thanks in advance for any and all help it is greatly appreciated!

Awesome thank you. I assume that just refers to the areas surrounding the airport?

has more things to see and do.

true that BWI is not far from the city but still..

I would not be deterred because a provider visiting MD was in the city instead of BWI.

The problem for Baltimorons, being one myself, is that getting to BWI hotels can mean a 45 minute drive or longer depending upon traffic, especially when there is a stadium event or during commuter hours. Getting cross town is a bitch! It is often a post-coital mood breaker....

Also avoid hotels that require card keys for lifts.  Guys and gals hate that shit!  You can PM me if you want to know which ones to avoid with card keys.

It just seems overall a better area to get around as well and although other people have seemed to have better luck in some areas and not here I myself have always had the opposite and the hotels are reasonable as well!

Good luck on your tour and enjoy the area!

Both have free parking which is one less thing to worry about. Inner Harbor is cool but...IMO the whole parking situation (paying to park) is aggravating.

What is it with people in the county and their aversion to having to pay to park? Why not use mass transit then?

Whether I live in county or city doesn't matter. What does matter is where I work, which is not downtown. So, MTA is out of question and paying to park is not something I want to do. Especially when majority of my dates are before work or lunch time.

If your intent was to find something where you can walk to shopping areas or restaurants, while still being near the hobbyists' choice of spots, then I would say to look at the areas around either Columbia or Arundel Mills malls.

Most of the responses to the question of BWI versus the city have always leaned toward BWI on this forum, with the exception of a few guys from the city that get defensive.  Since I am also in the suburbs, I agree with the majority.  Anytime I go into the city I have to plan for it to be an all day experience, which isn't the case in DC.  I have had the experience before of being able to drive into Baltimore city in 25 minutes for a hobby rendezvous, but then it took me almost 2 hours to get back out.  I just won't take that risk anymore.

Staying at a hotel at one of the malls that I mentioned above will get you close to BWI, and you will be able to walk to decent places to prevent any cabin fever in the hotel room.

My personal favorite spot for traveling providers is Arundel Mills, but I'm sure many would prefer the Columbia side of the highways.

It's just hard for many of us to get from BMore down to DC/Tysons, especially during the week.  I'd surely book with one or both of you if you came up for a couple of days
