thanks - amazing timing, as I just asked TER this same question

tonight, and for essentially the same reason, and had not heard back from them yet.
So thanks.

The sender, how can I find out who he is?  There don't seem to be any reviews in my area by this guy, yet he seems to have read my reviews and has asked questions in PM about some of the providers I've seen.  I don't want to be rude and tell the guy to f--- off, but he seemed amateurish to me and the questions were all already answered in the review, so WTF?  He obviously has VIP because he received my responses and answered back again.  I did a search of the forums but didn't find anyone posting by that name..  Is this normal?  I've only been VIP for a few months so the PM thing is fairly new to me.  I'm a message board old hand in fan sites for other topics (non TER related) and it seems that the controls around here are kinda antiquated and limited.  Probably this is for protecting privacy, but once someone contacts you here on TER who knows you somehow, why can't you find out morr about him?

I get a lot of those. If I think its a well meaning guy I answer. If I don't feel right about it, I don't.. It also depends on what he is asking. If its something benign I will answer, if it is not, if its too personal,  wouldn't.

Best thing to do is to ignore the PM if you don't feel comfortable. No such rule that you have to answer all the PMs, and no such rule about who can PM whom. Anyone can PM anyone.

reviews from the guy, then I ignore his post.  For all we know, it might be a provider (or LE) trying to find out some stuff that I don't particularly want known.

above you'll see the box, then go to > search > search by reviewer than type in the reviewers name. If he's written reviews you'll see them. I don't answer a lot of pm's  because some of the questions about providers are ridiculous

Thanks for the info.  Found him, he has 2 reviews, both in different cities both looking like they were written by different people due to grammar, spelling and cadence.  I'm def not answering this guy again.

TER has about a million members. Not all of them are VIP but you can probably figure a few hundred thousand are VIP. Members who post reviews, and members who post on boards are but a tiny fraction of those numbers, so it's pretty easy and normal to get a PM from a member you never heard of. As Curly said, you have no obligation to answer any PM. It's up to you if you want to answer or not. If you prefer to answer only to people who have reviews or board posts, it's easy enough to find out. As hh said, you can search reviews by reviewer, to see if that handle has written reviews. You can also search various boards to see if he posts. You can even use google to search the handle.
