prayers go out to his family. If I remember rightly, he had lung cancer. Only 69 years old.

Merlin was a fabulous player and one of the Rams' 'Fearsome Foursome' defensive front four-I also greatly enjoyed his acting-So sad to see this fine gentleman go----

Only so so in his later show where he played the title role in "Father Murphy."  Pretty good flower commercials also.

He and Dick Enberg made a great combination in the broadcast booth.

It was a little before my time to see the Los Angeles Rams "Fearsome Foursome" play.  Of the four (Merlin Olsen, Rosey Grier, Deacon Jones, and Lamar Lundy) only Lundy didn't become an actor after retiring from the NFL.

Rosey Grier had several TV guest roles in the 1970's (such as on a classic episode of Kojack).  He even did a Bounty Paper Towel commercial with Nancy Walker (who's character in the series of commercials was named "Rosey").  And who could forget the appearance of Deacon Jones (as himself) on an episode of "The Brady Bunch."

Rosie also used to show up on Kojak once in a while as a Bounty Hunter, Solathiel Harms.  But remember Merlin in the John Wayne movie, The Undefeated.

Yeah, everybody wound up in the mud!  Funniest fight scene ever filmed.  She was sticking everyone with a hat pin until she got knocked down the slide.
