Gotta go with Rice-his stats are off the charts and is arguably the best FOOTBALL PLAYER ever-his work ethic and workout routines are legendary and this is the major reason he excelled-Never saw Lavelli, CYNIC, but Berry was a good one-Don Hutson was the all time TD leader until recent years  BTW, CYNIC, Bear Bryant played on the other end of the Alabama line with Hutson in college-1rob

As much as I HATE anything/body 'RAIDER', Fred Belitnakoff(spelling is wrong i'm sure)was the best.

I know the stats won't back me up,but if i'm in a pickle and HAVE to make up some yardage,i'm going to fred.

periods.  Statistics really don't help, because offenses have changed so much.  There's no question that Rice was great, and certainly wins the statistical battle, but some of the old timers were great in their own right.  Raymond Berry and Dante Lavelli come to mind, as does the great Don Hutson.

You nailed it. The statistics make the case for Rice but what made him the best was his work ethic and competitiveness.
