All jest aside, everyone that's serious about using a sidearm for self defense would never choose a full metal jacket cartridge. In non military situations they are only used for target practice. There have been many many studies and tests demonstrating the much lower probability of the first round stopping power of FMJ compared to something more "messy."

If you pull the trigger on someone you'd better be willing to accept the consequence that you are going to kill them. No one shoots to wound, especially not the police, who BTW also prefer and use the more lethal cartridges. Only the Geneva Convention mandates FMJ.

California vs. Texas

The Governor is jogging with his dog along a nature trail. A coyote jumps out and attacks dog.

California:

1. Governor starts to intervene, reflects upon the movie
Bambi" and then realizes he should stop; the coyote is only doing what is natural.

2. He calls animal control. Animal control captures coyote, spends
$200 testing it for diseases and $500 to relocate it.

3. Veterinarian collects dead dog and spends $200 testing it for diseases.

4. Governor goes to hospital and spends $3,500 getting checked for diseases/rabies
from the coyote and gets bite wound bandaged.

5. Running trail gets shut down for 6 months while wildlife services conduct a
$100,000 survey to make sure the area is clear of dangerous animals.

6. Governor spends $50,000 of state funds implementing a "coyote awareness" program
for residents of the area.

7. State legislature spends $2 million investigating how to better handle rabies and
how to possibly eradicate the disease.

8. Governor's security agent is fired for not preventing the attack and for letting
the Governor intervene.

9. Cost: $75,000 to train new security agent.

10. PETA protests the coyote relocation and files suit against the state.

TEXAS:

1. Governor shoots coyote and keeps jogging. Cost: $0.50 on a .45 ACP hollow point cartridge.

2. Buzzards eat dead coyote.

Saw this on another forum and and got a good laugh and thought some would find it funny :)

In West Virginia the Gov.,and anyone else who roams bye could take the carcass home to eat.LOL

A hollow point makes it easier for the buzzards. After all, they don't carry silverware!

Coyotes are cousins to dogs, and when you start talking about eating dogs, you know who will be piping it:)

There are other more exotic cartridges but a Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP) delivered from a 45 ACP or 40 S&W is about the best self defense using a side arm.

without making a MESS!!!LOL For assurety do you add a speck of mercury to your tips? Oh maybe i shouldn't have asked that question. lol
