The job interview explanation works very well for a friend of mine from Canada. Whenever we catch him having lunch with a hot young lady, we actually believe now that it's a job interview.

You introduce your old college friend, then, on your way out, say to the SO's g.f., 'by the way, she is a lesbian and thinks you are hot.' Then ask if she's interested, since the 'college friend' lives in Oregon and is leaving tomorrow. MA

Alternatively, anyone who goes out to dinner in public with a pro when they have an SO is probably anxious to get out of the relationship anyway, so perhaps "Hey, check out this hot babe I am fucking" would be in order.
