Gunfire erupts during massage parlor arrest

By Mitch Mitchell

Star-Telegram Staff Writer

FORT WORTH - Officers who were moving in to arrest a woman during an undercover prostitution investigation fired several times at a massage parlor employee who pointed a shotgun at them early Tuesday morning, police reported.

The employee was not hit and was arrested, said Lt. Gene Jones, a police spokesman.

Iris Evans, 47, remained in the Mansfield Jail on Tuesday night facing a charge of aggravated assault on a peace officer. Bail was set at $95,000.

Jennifer Norris, 24, of Euless was arrested on suspicion of prostitution. Her bail was set at $500.

Jones said an undercover officer was leaving the Swedish Institute, 4920 Mark IV Parkway, just after midnight Tuesday accompanied by a female employee and a male employee who was carrying a shotgun, which he said was for their protection.

The man thought the officer was a customer and did not threaten him, Jones said.

At the front door, five other police officers were waiting to arrest the woman. They identified themselves as police and ordered the man to drop the shotgun, Jones said.

The undercover officer also identified himself as a police officer and grabbed the employee's shotgun.

As the employee and the undercover officer fought over the gun, the officer was knocked down and hit in the mouth. The employee first pointed the gun at the officer and then at other officers coming into the building, Jones said.

The officers ordered the man to drop the shotgun. He instead ran down a hall and got behind a wall, Jones said, and an officer fired at him four times. A second officer fired at the man three times when the man came back into the hall and pointed the shotgun at the officers, police reported.

The man ran out the back of the building and tried to get a worker at a nearby topless club to hide his shotgun, but the worker refused, Jones said.

The man hid the shotgun, but meanwhile, the worker showed officers where the man was hiding, Jones said. The shotgun was found behind the building's parking lot by a backup officer.

According to a police report, a man clad only in underwear and a second female employee were found in a back room. The man was released after he got dressed. The woman was arrested on outstanding warrants, police reported.

Always have an escape plan and don't get caught in your skivvies.
