prevent splintered wood from flying all over the place.  There will be new restrictions put into place in the minor leagues, but my guess is that they will soon find their way into the majors.  They say that maple and ash break with the same frequency, but I'm not convinced.  The specifications of bats is also being changed.  It's about time MLB did something about this.  Broken bats occur far too frequently, and fly into the stands far too much.

Yes, even if both maple and ash break at the same rate (which I do not think is correct) there seems no doubt that the maple bats shatter and the pieces go into the infield and stands  causing an extreme hazard to players and fans.
Besides we need all the maple  trees for the syrup…..cause who the fuck puts ash on their pancakes.

Conclusion  Yes MLB must Ban the maple bat.

Has anyone looked at the price of wooden bats these days? I was at Dick's the other day and they run something like $35!!!! I was absolutely stunned. I was 12 years old when they came out with the aluminum bats back in 1971 I think it was, but I was kind of a "purest" and kept swingin the timber up until the time I played college ball. A Louisville Slugger cost about 7 or $8 back in those days.
