I have been so scared to work lately, because of the whole incidence with the two providers getting killed. My good friend made a suggestion.
Because he is afraid for me to work by myself too.I have a two bedroom apartment where I work from. My friend has two big pitbulls that are trained and that he and I always take them for walks together. Many times I watch his dogs when he is away.. They are good guard dogs he said.  The dogs love me, and they can sense the fear of a person. He suggested me keeping them near by in one of the rooms. When I am working as a provider. He said to keep the door closed and if you feel unsafe open the doors and let the dogs out. He said that if his dogs sense sense that someone as a client or anyone is going to try something funny, they will definitely attack. He said that his dogs keep him safe and had saved his life before.
What do you feel about me doing this? I feel it's a great Idea.  I will feel much safer. I even feel that many providers should have big trained dogs when working. It is just my opinion and a suggestion.

Gee, I hope you have an understanding landlord.  Seriously, if you're this concerned about working maybe it's time to consider a change in careers or perhaps a short respite while you get your nerves under control.

New age doggie style. Seriously, could scare off good clients not to mention a mistaken attack would cause you all sorts of problems. Must be a better way to make you feel secure.

I think many guys are nervous the first time they meet a new lady and hearing two attack dogs just a door away would only heighten that nervousness.  If you feel that unsafe, perhaps you should only see regulars at this time.

This is not just about worrying about the client, but doing what you feel will keep you safe while doing this job. and worrying about yourself too.I don't feel that this will be killing the mood at all. I will always play my Romantic music while entertaining a client as I always do.  As a young lady involved and taking a chance to make  a living in a risky profession, that I love and helps me get by and pay the bills, while I go to school You have to do anything that you can to protect yourself.I mean come on, You and I know that this is an illegal business already and the safety risk involved.  You don't need to tell any client that you have the two dogs in the room. You can also sound proof the room.  The reason I feel so strongly about doing this is because even if you screen clients and see them for the first time, you never know who the client really is or what is going through the mind of any client you see  who walks through your door, just like any person or stranger you see on the street. He or she could be a serial killer for all you know. You don't have any idea what goes through a person mind. A client for example, they take a risk of coming to see us for all they know that one of us providers could be a cop  and bust them. So it is risky for them too.   So you always have to be ready for something that could possibly happen. Even if the client takes a session with you and hears the dogs and is a crazy person of some sorth, he will have a fear to not try anything because he scared of the dogs. And if he does still try anything I will scream and let the dogs out. If the client is there and takes a session with me and likes me and wants to come back , regardless of me having the dogs, that is fine and all good. But, my safety is number #1. Another reason I feel so strongly about this is because there was a time when I screened a client and he came passed all the screening and he came posing as a police and robbed me. I heard about this happening to some other providers and it was a lucky thing that he did not hurt me or touch me or anything. There are also many times where clients don't want to screen and they end up going to a young lady who doesn't screen, and you lose alot of busines . when I once in while don't screen, I 'll still have the dogs around that makes me feel safe. I also tell few friends that love and care about me and who don't judge me what I do for a living, just incase something did possibly happen.(A good Example)  A woman I knew in central park who was about to get robbed , but thank god that dog was there to save her life and attack that robber.  Better safer then sorry.

Merzina,

You certainly need to do what makes you feel safe, but if I needed two pit bulls in the next room to feel safe at work, I'd start looking for a new job.  Life's too short to live with that type of fear.  I wish you the best.

If these dogs are good for the police, like the german shepard they train to catch a criminal or escape convict in the woods. They certainly are good for me and my safety too.

A police K-9 is mostly used for their sense of smell, among other attributes. The difference is that K-9's are not utilized for the safety of the deputy/officer. Now granted the dog may keep he/she out of harms way sometimes.

I have to agree with the above post that you most likely will not even have the chance or opportunity to get up and run to the door and "release the hounds". Besides if a client is crazy enough to attack you, he would undoubtedly have no reservations about harming the dogs too. You might be better off to do something along the lines of learning self defense such as martial arts, or have a can of mace/pepperspray in the nightstand.

Hi this is Merzina. Thanks for all the input everyone. It is well appreciated. I always regurly do have mace close by.  I have took self defense for three years. Tang su do moo duc kwan, which is a korean style of karate, it is just like Tae Kwon do. The thing is that I never used it on anyone because I never had to.  I still remember all the moves though. I was always good with my legs with kicking front kicks, back kicks, front snap kicks and side kicks. I was never really good with my arms.  I do know a little blocking techniques though. My karate sensai used to say to me when I took his class that you have a litte more youngi, which in Korean is courage.

IF you are lying on a bed and someone wants to stab you or shoot you.. do you really think you are going to have time enough to say " Excuse me a moment.. I need to go potty before you kill me sir "

I agree with Emma... Take a hiatus while you get your nerves settled...

Partner with another provider in a hotel suite with adjoining rooms and let the clients know that your other gal has her date just next door as a normal topic of conversation. It would make most people think twice if they knew and less likely to be a problem unless he is some real sick mutha and then its time to leave the biz (albeit if you get out okay).

Better idea than arming yourself with a dog or 2: 1- Get a location that you are comfortable in   2- screen, pre-screen and screen again  3- Get more confident in what you are doing

Sorry to sound so jaded but this is a business that should be dominated by professionals and not taken lightly.

If you are indeed to scared to work then simply don't. But if you are serious about your business and dedicated to your own safety then educate yourself! AND do not convince yourself that if it happened to someone else it will happen to you. Take each situation one by one on it's on and deal with each moment. Before long your confidence will be back and you will be wiser for the experience.

Just for the record all of Atlanta is not at risk and I have never ever had a client yielding a hammer!!!!

That title is 100% true.

All that stuff about dogs sensing fear is crap. Maybe they sense body language but nothing else. Anyway, some killers do not do so passionately, thus they may not have any fear. Also, how will the dogs tell if your moans and whatnot are fear driven or something else.

The best thing to do is to call a friend in front of the guy and given them his info. Even if you fake it it's a good psychout.

Another side of this is that there are alot of people who have no fear of dogs, in this situation will they corner and hold an individual without inflicting any physical harm? There's an awful lot of variables involved in this that if you have taken into consideration you have neglected to mention. I agree with feeling safe and your concern because of the horrible things that have taken place but you have to think this through so as to not cause yourself any unnecessary exposure or problems. The chance of an accidental attack is very high even in a controlled situation with any dog other than one that has been professionally trained, I've witnessed a so-called trained dog attack and take down a person who was standing and talking to it's owner, this person had taken care of the dog several times prior to this. Anytime you are dealing with any animal you must remember that they have their own brain, therefore what causes them to react in certain ways is beyond our comprehension and for the biggest part only within our control if they allow it.
I'll get off my soapbox now, sorry if this is over the top but after seeing how much damage can be done in short order by a dog I think other options are worth considering.
