....you are worrying too much and need someone to help you relax. ::grin:: teehee

Just curious as to what hobbyists and providers think about this subject.  Is this truly a hobby, or is this an addiction?  Smoking is considered an addiction, how is this any different?  It is expensive, and may be hazardous to your health (mental and physical).

Personally, I find myself surfing this board on a daily basis.  I can't go a single day without checking the discussion board or surfing for new babes!  I also seem to plan business trips and sometimes vacations based on when and where certain providers are.  What do y'all think?  I think I'm hooked, line and sinker!

We can talk about your addiction later.

i think for me it has turned into an addiction, when i get the urge,it doesn't matter how bad things are financially,i will roll change if i have to,once i get it in my head(big or little)that i want to see a provider i am relentless in doing that..on the other side i can go for months and be fine then 1 day bang,i get the urge and will go on a 1-2 day a week run for 2-3 months, seeing providers...i used to use a local service, now that i have found these boards i have gotten worse....

DTBBBJTCCIMNQNS and "Asian"and "Greek".   LOL!!!!!!

all depends on how the rest of your life is going in the background. If work is running you into the ground or your home life is miserable a good hobby schedule can be the factor that lets you survive. Is that an addiction or is that good medicine ? Is it better to depend on pharmaceuticals to manage the effects of stress or have a quality outlet so you don't need the meds, or as many of them ?

It is a hobby to some and an addiction to others.

I know several people for whom this community, TER, and the interaction on the boards is the only social contact they have.
This is very sad.
I for one, enjoy the interaction among friends on the boards and in this community.
However, you must realize that we are all playing the fantasy game here.
Except in a very few cases, these "relaionships" are fleeting.

I don't mean to sound like a downer, because I have met some very interesting people here, some of whom I consider very dear friends.
But I realize that they might disappear tomorrow without a trace.

When you become obsessed with this community, the boards, and have the need to constantly "check the boards", you are on the verge of addiction and are heading in a bad direction.

Remember, this is supposed to be about having fun, meeting new people.
So enjoy, and play on, and realize that as with everything we do, don't let it take control.

Just my opinion...

I find myself doing the same thing, checking this and other boards frequently, checking reviews, planning visits with providers, etc. But, the critical thing is to keep your spending at an affordable level. What's affordable is different for each guy, the main criterion being that it's not affecting your family in an adverse way.

If you can honestly say your spending is within reason, then hobby away and have fun.

It starts out as a "naughty little hobby" and then grabs you by the short hairs and becomes a full-on addiction. Your symptoms are classic LM12. Face it; You are hooked! I have heard there are cures or at least 12 step programs however none of us here seem to want to kick the habbit.
BTW- If it makes you feel better the ladies too often become addicted to the lifestyle in their own way, for their own reasons.

Alcoholics Anonymous has a test you can take to determine whether you're an alcoholic.  There is no bright-line definition of addiction; many would say that you are addicted to something when it interferes with normal daily activity; when you go way out of your way to engage in the "addiction."  If you're sitting at your desk and you're bored, and you click on TER to relieve the boredom for five or ten minutes, it's probably a hobby.  If you stay at work an hour late to watch the boards, miss dinner with your family, and have to lie about what you were doing, you may be addicted, and the behavior is certainly inappropriate.

not addicted.  No way...not me!   Unless you count the times I see a new photo of Emma Bond and I attempt to push my computer monitar into my arms so she'll enter my  blood stream.  That's not addiction...is it?

Okay.
Fine.
I've got a little problem.

Science recognizes that there are some substances that are inherently addictive.

Your computer is obviously one of them.

No...I cancelled it after my credit card number was compromised. Do you still have my old e-mail address? Try [email protected] and I'll give you my updated address if you want to e-mail me. Alot's happened since I last saw you.

If a habit strengthens you or makes you healthier, it's not an addiction, if it weakens you or makes you sick, or causes you to break your other ethics, or other relationships necessary for your strength and health, then it is an addiction.

Obviously, since it's illegal, the hobby can be harmful to your strength  or health, but that's from society's imposed sickness.  In other words, it's not the hobby, but society's attack on you.

Obviously there's a risk of disease in the hobby.  I would say the benefits generally outweigh the risk, and the risk alone isn't enough to make it an addiction, unless you practice it in a way that disregards risk.
