Thanks, yeh I did plenty of long hikes when I was in the military so I'm hoping with that experience, along with staying in decent shape since I've been out will help with this journey.

Good luck. I am envious as the AT is on my bucket list also. I have done 30 miles from Front Royal  VA to Panorama Rock VA  it was a wonderful experience[/quote

So I've been trying for the past few years to find a moment when I can hike the Appalachian trail. Right now seems as good as a time to mark it off my bucket list. So I've decided to set off and leave in a couple weeks for my 6 month backpacking adventure. One thing I didn't think about until tonight was that this 6 month journey will be the longest I will go (not counting before high school) without having sex.

This trip will be more of a "find myself" moment, and I look forward to reaching the top of the mountain in Maine after my 2,108 mile journey. But I have read enough about some of the sex stories that go on at the trail, so maybe I'll get lucky. I've never had some really stank sex before, so it would be a first for me if it happens.

So here is my official break from the hobby after being in it for a few years. Hopefully I'll come back with more self enlightenment, cheers!

Good luck. I am envious as the AT is on my bucket list also. I have done 30 miles from Front Royal  VA to Panorama Rock VA  it was a wonderful experience

I did it in 2010. Unreal the shit you see. Memories for life. I ended up meeting a chic , we hiked for 2 weeks. Never did get to talk her into a little "trail jerky". There's a tree with a hole in it. Thought about it, but the teeth that could be on the other side or a bees nest.....killed my thoughts.

Right on, if you don't mind I'd like to pick your brain about how your journey went. I've got a lot of questions and have been reading as much as I can on it. I've been planning to do this for a few years but with my current personal situation along with other factors I feel this is a good time to go.

I laughed pretty hard about your tree comment. Since I'm leaving the first week of April, I'm hoping I don't run into too many obstacles. You'll have to tell me your trail name, I have been running a couple through my mind because from what I've read you don't want to do something dumb and get picked a name by others.

It will be life changing I am sure… Totally righteous and am a little envious… Thanks for sharing, it is always encouraging to hear of someone following their dream.

Thanks, I appreciate the responses on this thread. It seems all a little daunting, but if I can describe most of my life it has to be perseverance. I'm hoping this trip will give me a renewed sense of spirit and zest for things. I know the same problems will be waiting for me when I get back, but to just be free from all the hustle of the world for 6 months will be pretty amazing
