is that for the casual Olympic fan (and this prob. is about 95-99% of the population) we really do not understand the point system. Unless someone falls or blatantly stumbles, it is FAR too difficult for anyone to really ascertain who won. I don’t know what I'm looking at it. What I think might be an artistically great performance, could be viewed as weak by the next fan. What may seem technically sound, may in fact not be. I could watch everyone skate and yet be clueless on whom to declare as the winner.

Team sports, golf, auto/horse racing, tennis, etc. you know who won. You can follow the action and at the end of the day, declare a winner. But any of these sports where the outcome is arbitrarily left in the hand of judges (that includes a sport like boxing..assuming no knockout) becomes increasingly difficult to watch. You may enjoy watching the event, but its a tough sell to the casual fan if they cant easily figure out who won.

rivalry.  Kim Yu Na should win it though, and Korea will celebrate for days, as she's the biggest celebrity in Korea!

the judging.  Having said that, some skaters clearly seem to be smoother, more artistic, and more in control than others.  Certainly when it comes to the jumps, the average person is no match for the Olympic judges, but to a certain degree, some skaters seem better than others.  Admittedly, it's hard to really separate among the best, but separating the best from the others is a bit easier.
