Have had a problem with prostate for last five years (BPH). Before getting medical help, use to have to use bathroom 8-10 times a night. Now on medication, usually only have to go about 2 times a night. Also, there are medications which actually shrink the prostate (had a difficult time getting my doctor to prescribe this medication. Also suggest you ask your doctor to explain the difference between the increase in PSA levels due to BPH vs a maligant tumour.

I retired in 2005 and have been busy playing the stock market. It has been a fun and exciting ride for the last several years, but the market has became "placid". :) I am starting to get bored. I am trying to find something new to do. Hobby alone is not occupying enough of my time (can't do it too frequently) because of my concern with my SO. Any suggestions for other hobby?

Working out, hiking, cooking, gardening, reading, watching sports.
I think the sky is the limit. I would travel more if I could.
And one thing that I miss the most is coaching youth sports. There are tons of kids out there that could use a coach who could make a difference in their life. I also used to love volunteering and one way was to read at local primary schools to the youngest of children. Many young kids are not read to at home and as a result are playing catch up when it comes to the basics....so reading with friends makes a difference.
Enjoy your retirement, I am loving mine!!

I am training for my 1st 5k & it is fun!

That may be difficult for me because of my enlarged prostate. I require frequent restroom break. :(

If ever there was a wonderful win/win situation, mentoring is it.

They get success from your talent, you get adulation and friendship.

It can't be beat.

Although I have never thought about it, I like the idea. I will look into it. Thanks.

There are many organizations out there that desperately need volunteers and would be very happy to have your help. Find something that interests you, whether it is working with animals, the homeless, or even teaching/tutoring for free in a subject you may be good (I.E. English, Math, etc). Many need help learning to read and write properly, there are also programs to simply go in and read a book to children through the libraries, hospitals, big brothers/sisters etc. Education is so important, and a love of reading is a huge gift that you can give for free!

I may give it a try, but this is new territory for me. I am not sure if I'll be any good at it.

One retired lady i am aquainted with began volunteering with at risk youth and foster children. She now runs a small non profit and is a guardian ad litem. It has really enriched her life as well as those she helps.

enjoy spending time with hobbies around the house like gardening and cooking as well as volunteering in the community. I try not to spend too much time in any one area but rather do an hour at several areas each week.

Cooking is not a good idea for me. I almost burned my house down when I tried cooking 20 years ago. I did think about gardening. I was planning to replant my backyard garden for hummingbird.

i love to go to the casinos..bet online..and chase the young skirts..i love life in the fast lane while i still have some gas left in the tank..as long as the old engine is purring..i see no reason to park it in the garage just yet..

I retired early too. I have lost most of my interest in gambling. I gamble just to kill time. Unlike when I was young, I don't get much excitement out of it. I can't hobby as much as I like due to my SO. With too much time and energy on my hand, I need to find something that's fun, interesting, or exciting to do, yet acceptable to my SO.

I used to count the days until I was able to retire from the rat race once and for all but now that it is approaching I'm having a hard time figuring out what I am going to do with myself. The only hobby I have is "the hobby". Need to find something soon, I guess.

something...  requires you to go to shops all over for hard to find items.  Nothing wrong with volunteering, there's lots of good causes.  You could help a Handicapped neighbor (mow their lawn with your ride on).  Help at a food pantry.  What skills do you have?   And you want things that take you out of the house preferably at odd hours & learn to not explain every minuite you are gone.

Especially if you'd like more male friends
