...and Im pretty sad. Those of you who have seen me and were open to viewing them or holding them, know how much I love my babies. My newest one, my stark white, albino lucestic texas rat snake (who cost me a pretty penny, but worth every cent and was very rare), was sick for the last few days, and he finally passed this morning...

Though I took him to the doctor, they couldnt tell me exactly what was wrong. They had said it appeared as though he had been poisoned (though I live alone and I certainly hadnt given him anything); they also mentioned it could have been his food-- but I am close with the people in the pet store I bought him from so I called to ask them had they had any problems with sick rats and they said no, and offered to replce him, so I did not think that was the case either...

I was baffeled until just now...

I thought about what I do that may affect them and I realized I may have made him sick with the new febreeze air freshener. I have used it since it came out, and it never affected any of my other animals (cats, tarantulas, and other snakes), but he was a baby so it could have taken a different affect. It had a hazardous if inhaled warning that I never really paid any attention to; I guess I just assumed it was safe to use since I use the fabric spray on my couches with no trouble, and I knew that was mostly natural corn water, so I didnt think twice about the spray being different for the air. I knew not to spray cleaners, or even regular air freshener around them and if I had I always moved them or opened a window or both. But I called the pet store and talked to a friend of mine there that is a snake expert and he said its a pretty safe bet that I caused his demise... so now I feel worse.

Not really here for sympathy, or trying to slam febreeze (because I love it), so much as I would like to warn people incase they have snakes as well, or other tank animals that get things trapped inside thier homes that they cannot run away from, that I guess you cant really spray anything around them at all (which I should have known, but you know what they say about hindsight). I feel so awful in knowing that I may have caused him pain and suffering and a very short life, but I cannot dwell in my mourning. I will take this as a lesson learned...

Below are some pictures of him...

I babble too much...

Noze Kandie (and yes thats his name because he looks like a "line", and no I dont do drugs and never have-- my best friend named him)

I am deeply sorry for your loss. Not a big fan of our scaly friends myself,  but as someone who is never without a pet (be it dogs, cats, birds, fish or the occasional insect that is granted asylum in my kids' rooms), I know how the death of a pet hurts as deeply as the loss of a family member, because that's exactly what it is. Recognize that your feelings of guilt (while unwarranted) are a natural part of the mourning process and will pass. Thanks for the advice of  the use of the room fresheners, you have probably saved others from a similar fate.

Thanks for the warning.

We've got a four foot corn snake and think he/she is the greatest. (Can you believe that the pet store where we bought it didn't know if we were getting the male or the female that they had. They kept the two in the same habitat and they made babies, but were never sure which one was which.)

Snakes are very cool pets.

We did have one scare, though. One of my kids set the heat lamp on the carpet while he was changing the water bowl and forgot to put it back on top of the habitat. It is on a timer and when it came on and stayed on all day, it burned a huge hole in the rug. Could've burned the house down - thank God all we lost was a carpet.

Sorry for your loss.

I can't watch Animal Planet without crying. Altho I'm not a snake person, a pet's a pet, and they are definitely close to the heart.

..as to who you are, Danielle.  You mentioned you were from Vegas, but I don't see any reviews.

Is this your site?

Cheers!
