Yea, I know I'm an idiot to use my work phone.

Don't ever use a real phone registered to your name and certainly not one registered to your employer. These burners are cheap and easy. I like the suggestion of getting one with an area code that is different from your home area. I had not thought of that option but it makes sense.

I really need to get a burner phone. I keep waiting for work to wonder who I'm calling in Miami, although we are an international company.

Do any of you have a burner? I'm especially asking the married guys, as I am and can't of course go on the fam plan. lol Any recommendations!! Of course, it needs to have SMS.

I love transgender women so much. I wish I had know of them 20 years ago. :sigh:

Thanks to you ladies and gents on here.

TracFone is a good option. Buy it with cash (don't leave a paper trail) and when you register it, use a different area code than yours...should be untraceable if that is what you are after

I use a tracfone.  Register it with a fictitious name - keep it "clean" by deleting any out and incoming calls and messages, lock it when not in use and remove the battery.  I stash it under the carpet in my car.  Been using one for the last 6 years

What's the benefit of using a different area code? Just curious. Doesn't seem like that would really lead back to you in any way unless you live in a tiny town or something.

I'd guess the different area code is just another safeguard. I don't use it but next time that I switch phones I might consider a random area code.

I had a tracfone but If I recall when setting it up and paying for the minutes you had to give a credit card which requires your real name, does that not matter or is there a way around it?

I have to learn a new way to do this.  I threw out my bat phone last year. I have a friend who's wife caught him with a secret phone.  She was able to find out about several affairs and get all the info she needed to bust him.  I wish I could have a second phone number for my I-phone.  Is this possible?  I just don't want to raise a red flag when I get busted with my hobby phone.

Uninstall the app when you're not using it.  simple and pain free.

for iphone, download the app line2 and you can get a phone # with your area code... it's about $10 month. Delete when done, then download again when you need to use :)

For me, it is
a) set up a NEW gmail account.  When they want to email a 'real' email address to verify, use mailinator.com (google it).  that will set you up with a fake gmail account
b) set up a google voice number linked to that gmail account
c) use the iPhone app, then just delete when done

for added bonus protection,
d) i'm using an iPhone 4 i bought at a local repair shop for $100.  it has a small crack in the screen.  i don't care.
e) using a tracphone sim card (paid cash).
f) i'm using a private VPN for all internet traffic on that phone.  i use private internet access VPN and it works great with iOS devices.  simply turn on the VPN and i can surf the web in complete anonymity.

the VPN is key.  My friend went through a divorce and they got a subpoena from the internet provider and phone company listing all the of the internet traffic.  you do not want www.theeroticreview.com showing up on that list.  The VPN just shows you going to the VPN site.  still looks odd, but not a smoking gun.

If ever questioned about the burner phone, i can simply say that i found it and was going to erase it or sell it on ebay.
