I checked my r134a pressure and it was about 50 psi on the low side.  Should it be around 40 psi at the most?  Has anyone checked their a/c pressures this summer?  I think it is overcharged because sometimes it cuts off - possibly because of high pressure..

A little levity is excellent for the start of summer.
Now back to the gorgeous and extremely talented women of the valley of the sun.

well how did you re-charge it?  hopefully not with one of those hokey POS "kits" from Wal-Mart, you need a high and low pressure gauge, it should be purged and re-charged correctly to work properly, I did the same thing you did and it shut off because its out of balance.

Well its true it is a cheap recharge.  I don't want to spend any $ because you never know when the government will seize your car so it doesn't make sense to pay extra for correct repairs.  I only have access to a low pressure reading.  I think it is overcharged so I let some off.  It seems to work when temperatures are lower than 90 degrees but shuts off on temperatures above 105 or so I believe the pressure is still high.  It does have a slight leak so I was figuring just let it sit until it naturally lowers pressure to 40 psi on the low end.  I called a dealership and one of the techs told me never to let the low pressure get above 45 psi.
