What if someone is a member there but only lurks, never posts, and doesn't want anyone to know

Not sure what I am missing here. But if the guy is a member of RO board, I am not sure what is to be gained by not letting people know and hiding it, other than just being secretive for the heck of it.
Or what if someone is a member but only posts there under alias? That could be a way to out an alias.
The same capability can be extended to alias as well. Just plug in the alias and hit the button. Not hard for those who maintain a site like this.

If someone doesn't want others to know that they are a member of that board, should everyone be able to find out anyway?
Again, not sure what is to be gained by hiding. Everyone knows RO/MO/PO/AO boards exists, and when certain criteria are met, people can ask to be members of these boards

It would be a good idea to have the ability to input a fellow monger's userid and see if the said monger is part or not part of the RO board.  Say you are talking to a fellow monger over PM, and you want to reference something that was said on RO Board, such ability might help you double check if member is part of RO board or not to begin with. If he is not, then you might not even want to start the conversation. If he is, then there is no harm.

For the place that leaks like sieve, it seems a little ironic that someone would care this much, but some of us do actually care for integrity.

he  is a member?

I'm not answering my own question yet. I am not sure if it's a good or bad thing. I can see some arguments on both sides. I'm just throwing out some "what ifs" for discussion, before considering your proposal.

I don't recall any initiation ritual when I joined, but that was 9 years ago, so maybe there is now?  VIP is not a prerequisite, is it?

So, you can just look up and see how many reviews the guy has and that should tell you.
