Why Betty would do that, is unknown. Anyone in the future looking to hire her should ask her for HER references and see how that goes. I ASSUME that if you are approached by someone wanting to be your assistant, you would would want to check them out just in case they are LE.
Is she contacting clients that she kept files or data? I think that's the more disturbing thing. If she contacted me out of the blue and said "Did you know that Maddie did bla bla bla?", my concerns would be why are you contacting me and why didn't you purge my info?

It has been brought to my attention twice in less than two months that my former assistant is talking crap about me.
I'm extremely disappointed as I haven't spoken so much as an ill word about her. She parted ways with me suddenly giving almost zero notice. I kept my feelings and opinions on how she handled severing our business relationship to myself and I must admit, the fact that she is "throwing me under the bus" is very disheartening. What is wrong with people?

Some people can be sooo mean in this business. Keep your head up and hopefully she will stop affecting your business by bad mouthing you. Maybe partnering up with a better assistant in the meantime will help fix your reputation while the assistant is out doing this to you.
I dealt with an agency talking poorly about me to clients on purpose when I emailed the agency for screening. It lasted for almost half a year. They were nice at first with their responses for a month but then after that things turned. No idea why but this agency went out their way to either not respond to my requests, spread terrible lies so the client would stop responding after screening, lie that the client never booked even though he was a regular, say they would send me a new client, and the agency would email crazy stories about accidents why the client couldn't show up for my appointment which she had no business being involved with; I'm an independent provider. I was always polite to the agency when they contacted me for reference needs. It all stopped as soon as I realized what they were up to and had to request more references other than that agency from clients.

Your reputation in this business has been long established. Your assistant on the other hand doesn't sound too bright. Why would other ladies use your former assistant when she trashes you when the relationship goes sour. Definitely not business savvy
but find it interesting when somebody implies that they are completely blameless in a situation. I am going thru it right now at work. Something was said that they thought was harmless and yet it totally pissed me off. I didn't quit, but I am not happy about. Yes, she/he should have talked to you about it and bad mouthing you is not the right way to resolve the situation. Have you tried to contact said individual? There are two sides to every story.
I did contact her immediately. She claims she would never...but the conversation as it was shared with me had too much specific details about what was going on in my life personally at the time that the gentleman would not have been privy to otherwise because he and I never had an appointment or even a conversation.
I suspect that is how the porn studio went down. I remember seeing a bbw there, she seemed nice enough. But after the session she was bitching and moaning about how terrible the studio bossman was. I think this could be reason why street gangs never let anyone out because they are afraid of all the knowledge which may fall into government hands.
