an article that is a bit satirical; or one that portrays it from the truer side: Dating for Hire.

Voters in Berkley, California will decide whether or not to decriminalize prostitution in Berkley. Angel's Initiative will be on November's ballot.

What are your thoughts on Angel's Initiative? What do you think about decriminalizing prostitution nationwide?

Another news article:
http://www.dailycal.org/article.php?id=15895

but it's frustrating that they always refer to the streetwalker side of it, and refer to it as prostitution, and how much crime it will bring.

Will you ever see an article that portrays it from the Dating for Hire side, and how ridiculous it is to fear arrest for such activities? An article that is a bit satirical?

A man and a woman walk into a restaurant..
..they are about to have dinner..
and get acquainted over a glass or two of wine..
They don't really know each other -(dun-dun Law and Order sound and dramatic pause) - she is a "Hired Companion".

(what crime lurks around the corner while these two dine and chat?? dun dun..)

Bad wine??  Food poisoning??  The only things that I can come up with.

I certainly support legalization in a controlled atmosphere, such a as a well maintained quiet incall, or outcall to the clients home among adults. I do not support streetwalkers or the way prostitution is conducted in Europe such as drive through parks(for lack of a better description)in Holland. Women literally stand under street lights in, what amount to, drive through areas. Men drive around a circuit past each woman and stop if someone interests them. Business is conducted in the back seat of the clients car. Its all perfectly legal. You see my point about regulations? Does the word degrading enter your mind? It sure did mine.  Another thought ladies, Im not sure how well some of your rates would hold up under these new standards. Increased demand surely but I bet increased supply too!

is an eyesore, and a public nuisance. That's why I thought that LE would be HAPPY to have it go to the internet and within private confines and off the street, but noooo..

The ladies and the industry base their rates on risk and know that that would inevitably change along with the evolving of the industry. As many say, $ for every risk:
1) Health risk
2) Personal safety risk
3) LE risk

I agree that it sould be decriminalized. I also agree with Swede that it should be incall out call only, no streetwalking.

As far as the newspaper articles, I found them to be biased. I don't know if I would say satirical. I did a Yahoo search and that's what I found.

My fear is if Angel's Initiative passes in Berkely and things run amok, opponents of decriminalization will point to Berkely as an example. I know I'm projecting here, but I am predicting a mess if Angel's Initiative passes and streetwalkers are for the most part unchecked.

A similar scenario took place in Boston many years ago. They set up something they called a combat zone, where streetwalkers were allowed to solicit. From what I read, it turned into a real mess.

I believe decriminalization or legalization of prostitution would work if good legislation is passed. The key is good legislation.

Decriminalization will have many benefits.  Some problems too, but on balance, almost certainly benefits.  The whole process will be safer, and otherwise law-biding citizens will not find themselves breaking the law, which I suspect many of us really do not like to do.

Overall my experience with a legal escort service in Germany (check out my review for Jenny in Munich) was positive.  Legalization in Germany clearly has not created a mess.
