go to a place like a tattoo shop, aren’t you afraid of having your labia, clit, etc. injured or getting an infection?  Are people licensed to do piercing, or is it something anyone can do?  How about sanitary conditions, are there any regulations?

Unfortunately the piercing places only give you a waiver form, and they do not keep their "patients" informed on developments should a need to "recall" a certain type of piercing occur.

So, I will share this simply because I am some kind of sweetheart honky fool, if you will.

I cannot answer the first part of your question.  But the second part. Friends do NOT let friends get a piercing with gold metal.  I did it because it's very pretty and I love the look of gold.  It was also more expensive, btw.  But I wanted to treat myself to the best for my birthday. I now have an allergy because my body fluids ate through the gold.  It took 6 years, but it finally happened, and I discovered after going to three doctors that this type of allery IS common.  How come no one told me that at the piercing place?  They probably didn't know, and like I said earlier, don't keep track.  The piercers come and go. And the Gauntlett, where I would go, were well respected at the time, as well as extremely careful and wellknown for their precautionary methods, but they are no longer around.

So whatever, I recommend and so do my gynies and doctors, go for the surgical steel piercings on such body parts.

Just a note,  I do suffer from this allergy now, because the labia tries to build up protective layers to protect against my own fluids.  It creates an itching. I am looking into further remedies without having to use steriod creams which thin the skin over time.

Nothing contagious at all.  One gynie recommends using brewed teabags as a poultice.

One upside to the whole thang.   It makes me incredibly horny to where I constantly need to scratch the itch which can only be relieved either with a vibrator, or having a scratching post, if you get my drift :-))

I at one time had my hood pierced (the skin above the clit). I was 20 at the time. I went to many tatoo shops and parlors till I found one willing to answer all my questions. I even got to watch a few get done (always make sure it is okay with both the owner and the person getting pierced). Make sure they have a good reputation and are properly trained. Ask about sterilization procedures. Most have photo books showing off their work.

I personally no longer have it because I lost sensation after about a year of having it in for a year (I have feeling back now after taking out the ring) and got tired of having to be careful with clothing, etc. It is great for a while but overall I wouldn't do it again. Not to mention it wasn't that comfortable getting done. I would get my belly button and nipples done again with no regrets. I still don't have the nerve up to get my tongue pierced. I honestly think piercings are very sexy ;-)~
