We were planning our move from the (cooler) East Coast and were out looking for houses.  We were thinking that no way could we ever get used to this kind of heat.  When we went back to the car rental place and said that the A/C wasn't working right - the guy just laughed.

Back on June 26, 1990 we hit 122 degrees. NOW that is f'ing hot.

Any one else remember/experience it?

It was so hot that they had to close the airport because it was 127 on the tarmac and the charts they use for take off only went to 125. They had to refigure all calcs and once they did it then they reopened it. But it was closed for a few hours due to heat. Who would have thought.

What I remember most about that day was walking on asphalt my heels/shoes sunk into it - it was that soft.

So when people complain about 110/115, I say you have no idea but it can get and did get hotter.

What was your experiences that day?

I visited and it was 117. That's enough for me. I'll never forget what the heat did to the green chile and carnitas inside me when I stepped outside from Dick's Hideaway.

Had been living in CA for a couple of years and just happened to be back that day riding my motorbike w/helmet. It felt like the hand of God was slapping me down.

I was working outside that day doing site surveys and remember it was eerily quiet almost like it was too hot to breathe. I thought it is because everyone was smart enough to stay inside. Certainly that had an effect but later I heard about all of the airports shutting down and realized that was the reason. It is amazing how much noise pollution comes from aircraft.

I went for a walk at lunchtime and when I got back to work I was drenched in sweat.  I remember the couple of days leading up to 122 and the couple of days after it were pretty damn hot too.  I moved to San Diego a couple of years after that, but plan on returning to AZ and settling in north Scottsdale within the next few years.
