A copy of my DL? No...Hell No!

Would you send that nice Nigerian prince who emails your DL?

A provider has no legitimate use for a copy of your identification. Period.

You wanna look at it when I get there?  Sure.
Though in 25 years in the hobby, here and elsewhere,
I have never done it once.

There are myriad better ways if 'safety' is the issue.
If a provider can't secure their saftey without compromising mine...I pass.

That's just how Iroll...and I don't feel I've missed out on a thing.

I apologize if this is well worn ground.  What is everyone's view of giving out a pic of your driver's license during screening? I was in the process of reaching out to someone I was really interested in seeing and was asked to send my DL pic.

I like to fly very discreetly and just couldn't bear to send that kind of info to someone I didn't know. I wound up bidding the lady a good nite, and going back to a regular.

Guys - are you comfortable giving this out?

Ladies - how would you use this info, do you need the address? Or just the pic? What else would work.

I'm not complaining. You just can't be too careful, and I respect that.  Just looking to understand.

Also note this was someone traveling to the area. I would probably be a lot more comfortable giving info to reputable highly reviewed provider.

I have heard of women asking to see your drivers license on the onset of an appointment before. I believe they do it so that they can make sure that the information that you provide them truly is you. I have had people use another person's identity before, and if you are not extremely careful with your screening, you can end up meeting a completely different person. These days, it is easy to find people's information on the internet and assume their identity. Most women that I have known that require ID's are usually fine if you mark out everything but the name and/or picture, and sometimes the DOB if you are already providing it. Not my preferred method of screening. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions!

If you have verifiable references from reputable providers , in the absence of that there are other means of screening gentlemen.
And your DL is not required for any of them :)
I would move on if I were a gentleman who encountered such a request.

I am a visitor  to your city, not new to the hobby. I just ran into the same request.  I agree not a good idea, yet how can we tell the community who is requesting it?  is the provider for real or just a scam?

I think I made the right call. I'm highly screenable so there was no reason to go outside of my comfort zone.   Glad I didn't let the little head do all the thinking!

When the person is brand spanking new to the hobby, no board presence, can't provide any other kind of authenticating information that can assure me an association w/ a local LE agency isn't present.

Usually if they state they are from out of town.

I don't need/want all the information on the DL.  I just want to see a valid, out of state ID, that matches other information supporting requesting parties claims.

Haven't done it often and normally, only as a last ditch attempt to cut through the back and forth chipping away little bits and pieces to verify the person isn't a local LE affiliate.

It basically goes like this:  If you want company, then come up off the information so we can get this moving.  Otherwise I'm sorry and it's not going to happen.

It's normally those last minute requests where there are no heads up to do a screening properly.

Not a preferred method but sometimes it's the only way to skin the cat.

When a potential client wants to verify through work information only.
If you don't have reputable references, there is a level of hoop jumping unfortunately.
I always ask they block everything out except picture and name. I don't want any other info.

LE definitely has the means to create a fake ID.
There are a world of ways to screen the gentlemen you
just need to ask the right questions, and of course he has to answer honestly of course.
require a photo of course but not a DL... it will save a world of trouble down the line with both LE and
someone who thinks his identy has been compromised , because face it...we'd be the first people they would think of when trying to figure out who is using their information
