ESPN has been doing a story concerning possible expansion of the Big 10 (11). Two of the schools mentioned are Missouri and Texas. I don't know if this is serious or just the result of someone's wet dream, but Texas in the Big 10 (11)?!?!? Horey Morey!!!

My guess is that Texas is making noises to get a better cut of the TV revenue for the conference, which does not have a great deal according to reports.

necessitate trips by plane which is not economically feasible in non-revenue sports.  In the Big XII, many away games are bus trips, at least for sports like volleyball, softball, baseball, etc.

On the other hand, Penn State has been doing this since they joined the Big 10.  Ohio State is the closest Big 10 school to Penn State and that is a 10-hr. bus ride.

make the bulk of the income to pay for all the other sports.  Do you really think women's softball breaks even when you take into account the cost of the scholarships, travel, uniforms, recruiting trips, etc. etc.?

Same can be said for track & field, golf, and so on.

because Penn State is a helluva lot closer than 10 hours away from Columbus.

Maybe if the football team is pushing the bus it would take 10 hours but normally it is much less than that!!!

On the Texas issue, the Big Ten is just looking at what school can bring in the most revenue. Other than Notre Dame, that would be Texas.

But I can't see Texas joining a conference where it's closest league rival is in Bloomington, Indiana.

But, nothing shocks me these days.  Money talks.

a good fit in every respect but one - geography.  Then there's the matter of tradition among rivals of Texas.  Sure, they could still play Oklahoma with no problem, but what about A&M, Texas Tech, etc?  No, Big Ten expansion would most likely be Missouri, or possibly Pitt.  It should be Notre Dame, of course, but those arrogant fools would rather be an island to themselves, and if their football team doesn't show sharp improvement, their athletic island will slowly sink.
