Hepatitis B is a greater risk in this hobby

the presiding doctor at my STD clinic believes that active players in the hobby who take reasonable precautions are at a "lower" risk, he didn't quantify what he meant by "lower", for HIV infection, however he feels, this based on his day to day caseflow in New York City, may not be representative of other locations, that there is a HIGH risk of Hepatitis A and B. He strongly recommended to me that I get the full Hep A/B series, then the follow up test to determine IF I had mounted an effective immune response from the vaccine. A percentage of those who receive the Recombivax B need to repeat the series for it to be effective.

Take his advice seriously. My brother in law caught Hep B this way. He is an elder in his church, pillar of the community, tortured soul and all that. Nobody else in the family knows how he caught it. He now thinks it is divine retribution and is even more tortured. Should have told his doc he was planning a trip to Mexico for an extended stay. That's a definite good innocent reason for the hep series.

Don't delay. Get vaccinated today.

in the series. That is a given, and a must.

I was vaccinated years ago, and my last Titers (testing effectiveness) indicated absence, so repeated. The second time it showed the presence. Hate those discrepancies..

Also, as part of my last 'real' job, the employees were 'exposed' to blood-borne pathogens, so had to view the recent information regarding BBP's, and it indicated that HepB is 800 times more likely to be contracted than HIV.

Dear Sedona,

One question since you seem up on this.  How does the HepB pas during protected "actvities"?  (I guess, in other words, what do I have to give up...?).

Thanks!

are you vaccinated against Hep B?

I know I am and can prove it.

Hepatitis is a disease not to be taken lightly.  Guys, how DID Pam Anderson get it?  Her ex didn't have it.

Neutrogena.

Not that it matters that much to the discussion, but I think that Pamela Anderson said she has Hepatits C.
