AZ Prostitution law not strong enough needs forfeitures

9/2/2014 Phoenix Business Journal article with the expected huge influx of "johns" and underaged prostitutes to the Super bowl need stronger laws so the wealthy "johns" get assets seized.  This has been shown as a false concern in other Super bowls in various cities but it makes good media and justification for funding the stings.

"A new report by Shared Hope International and Arizona State University shows 71 percent of underage prostitution arrests in Phoenix come via stings. Those stings often involve police putting dummy advertisements on Backpage.com, Craigslist or other online websites and then nabbing ‘Johns’ who solicit sex for money from minors."

(Dave notes of course these are adult ads, adult pictures, adult only site and men entrapped when had no under aged intent - but who cares about facts. Not to mention stings arrest at least 90% consenting adults - but facts get in the way of grants and massive funding for the scam).

"While Phoenix Johns faced more jail time than defendants in the other cities, they often had suspended sentences and ended up serving as little as 90 days in jail, according to the study.

"The report's authors also called for increasing asset forfeiture laws to bump up punishments for more affluent offenders. The average fine for a Phoenix offender was $762."

“Tom xxxx Attorney General championed stronger sex trafficking bills this past legislative session, which were signed into law. It’s our responsibility to work alongside law enforcement to ensure that these criminals are charged to the fullest extent of the law,” a spokesman for the Attorney General’s Office.
