There have been some very intriguing and intellectually stimulating posts recently, particularly Loarthan's post about profiling. Even though it should have been on the political board, I enjoyed the whole thing. It had just 300+ hits, but 60+ responses. The entire discussion took place during a hectic work week, and as much as I wanted to, I didn't have time to join in, at least not in any thoughtful manner. Reading the intelligent, articulate arguments from all sides reminded me of how great it is to be in a country that allows such speach, and to have a forum for it. It also confirms that there are good arguments on both sides of nearly all issues, if one only bothers to think. I have never been a great fan of parties, banquets, etc., because I quickly tire of the shallow conversations, and start getting the smug feeling that I'm the only intelligent fellow in the room. I don't actually like that feeling. On this forum, however, I don't feel like I'm the smartest guy in the house at all, in fact the opposite is true. I am frequently amazed and humbled by the quality of discourse on this board. Often the debator even links to encyclopaedic material supporting his/her argument!
In the thread in question, the coup de gras was when quintus posted a link to the "(periodical)articles that started it (the whole discussion) all", and omegazap responded by linking to the Bill of Rights, saying "THESE are the articles that started it all."
Just great! Love to stimulate the intelect, stir the passions!
