when you select the program to 'Open with', you should see a check box beneath the list of programs (in XO, it reads 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'). Check that box and you should be able to merely double click that type of file and open it with that program.

I ge these pics sent to me that are called .JPEG and I save them to my computer. When I try to open them again I can't. It says something about looking for the "exe"...

My question is, what do you do to these or what do you in general so you can open these type files??? The same happens with "bmp" stuff and "ram" etc...

Thanks much,

BK

PC or MAC?

Assuming PC, right-click on the file, and select "Open With" then "Choose Program".  In your case, you can use Internet Explorer to open the JPEG.  Also check the box "Always use this program to open these files."

Many options still but here's an easy one.  From Internet Explorer use file-open-browse and point it to your jpeg image (Make sure you select jpeg as the file type you are looking for).  For bmp images you can use the file-open option in Windows Paint to open a bmp file.

In Windows Explorer, click Tools button, select Folder Options.
Then select File Types, then associate .jpg (and .jpeg) to Internet Explorer.

and almost any trouble with other graphics files.  Use the Tucows link below.

It's a much better picture viewer than IE, faster and smoother to operate.  Once you install this puppy, it will automatically give you the option of associating jpegs, other picture-like files to itself.  After that, you should be able to just point and click to open your jpegs.  But why even point and click?  It has a slide show option for hands free viewing of hundreds of jpegs.  Cool feature, but I can't think of why any guy would need it....

Only drawback, just try not to splooge your keyboard and screen.  :-D

Hold down the shift key while right-clicking on the file and "Open With" will appear on the menu.  Then choose the program you want.

Hi Billkile,

I see you have already gotten several good answers to your question. I wanted to add that you might want to add a flexible viewer that easily opens may formats (jpg, bmp, tif, gif ....); check out something called Irfan View.  Its freeware or at least shareware (I forget which), but anyway it costs nothing if you just get the basic version. With this type of program you don't have to know ahead of time if you've set the explorer options for a specific file type. I use it for my default image viewer (in place of MS Paint, Int. Explorer, etc.).

I presume these images are being sent via e-mail.  If so, what e-mail reader are you using that won't display the images attached to the message?

Peace...
