great football player and a good kid, but it should have stopped there.  But a lot of people tried to make him into Superman, and I think that has actually hurt his image.  Unfortunately, it seems that many are now hoping that he fails in the NFL.

I actually feel sorry for him. I know some on this board have been critical of his skills, me included, but today Uche Nwaneri, an offensive lineman for the Jaqs basically said Tebow can't throw, can't read coverages other than cover 2, can't take a snap under center, and the wildcat will not work in the NFL - PERIOD.

Now to add insult to injury, Joe Theismann just ripped into Tebow and Urban Meyer. He said Meyer has no clue on the process for preparing a QB for the NFL.

Tebow is a decent kid. I don't think I have ever heard of a college player, Heisman or not, being trashed like this before the draft. Somehow I hope he can make in the NFL, even at another position.

difficult for him to demonstrate his skills when the world is critizing your every movement. What pressure. I also have critized Tebow, and now your making me think that is not fair. It's not fair because he is only doing what the coach is asking him to do, and that is win. He is only a kid and the kid deserves a break.

I disdain the Gators, but I will be rooting for Tebow and I hope he succeeds in the NFL. Good Post.

But I have a hard time mustering up any sympathy for Tebow, with his "holier than thou" attitude.

Sure he was a great college QB, one of the best, but I doubt he will be anything more than a footnote in the NFL. Not to mention the fact, that if he tries his holier than thou shit with a bunch of NFL, millionaire superstars, he will have his ass handed back to him on a silver platter.

Media nowadays is like porn...to get interest, they just go further and further out.  You can't blame them in some ways, as they are doing what they have to do to try and survive and stand out, but the end result is nauseating, depressing, and damaging.

No one would have cared about stuff like this 10-15 years ago.  Now, it fills headlines, and our media saturated brains drink it up and vomit it back out.

How many standout college quarterbacks did not translate into good NFL quarterbacks?  Is it Tebow's fault, when he was doing what was best for his team?  Is it Meyer's fault, when he was doing what was best for the team, the school (his employer), and himself? Is it the NCAA's fault, for not putting an emphasis on marketable skills for their deified athletes?

Or is it just the way of the world, with Tebow getting four years of fame that is a million miles beyong 99.9% of the world, only to find that fame is fleeting unless you are planning for when the playing field changes (which isn't as easy as it sounds, or everyfuckingone would be a millionaire).

If he has the athletic ability and the mind to adapt, he will eventually make it.  he may have to take a big ego check and start small, but no one thought Kurt Warner was going to be a great NFL QB, either...or Doug Williams...

Tebow is getting hit with a does of reality. Yes, he can eventually make it, but he has a lot of work ahead of him, more than most quarterbacks coming out of college because of the system he was in. As to Joe Theismann, he should shut his yap. Meyer's job is not to prepare quarterbacks for the NFL. His job is to win games for Florida.

I agree with your statement "Meyer's job is not to prepare quarterbacks for the NFL. His job is to win games for Florida."  But if in the long term that is how is known among top high school QB's, he will have more trouble recruiting them and therefore have a more difficult time winning.

He probably should get a strong QB coach to support his primary goal of winning at the college level.

...he hired scott loeffler as qb coach last spring. he was  the nfl lions qb coach for a year or 2 coming from michigan who he coached: chad henne, john navarre, drew henson, tom brady, brian griese......

wait till you see gators 6'-4" qb john brantly next season as a junior, he will break all gator passing records there for 1 year season (almost all revievers coming back, stud redshirt will be back & impact freshmen recievers too, rb;s can catch too)....pro style qb, he will become (barring injuries) a classic nfl qb opposed to teabow. meyer does adapt to his personal, he did w/leak & won a title, but he couldn't throw 50'-60' ropes like brantly can. (i've seen him in 2 spring games, best qb mechanics i've seen @ florida...his daddy was former gator qb when i was there, his highscholl qb was ex gator kerwin bell) looking forward, we''l loose 2 or 3 games next year, but back in the title hunt the following year.

loeffler got there too late to make a impact on senior teabow, prob would have been diff if he was there when teabow was a freshman.

teabow will have to play wildcat qb in nfl & h-back or tightend, i don't think he can change that throwing motion now, way too fucked up, lol...

great kid, he'll be fine in the nfl, he knows what is & isn't important & doesn't read the funny papers.

USC finished @ 3003 and Florida @ 2938. There was a late addition to USC at the close, Seantrel Henderson a 5-star OL. The final results are still up in the air pending Henderson signing as he only gave a verbal late yesterday. If you think I'm thrilled w/USC's recruiting class you are wrong. I am a UCLA alum, and thank GOD they finally cracked the top ten.

It's interesting about recruiting classes. Boise State never gets 5-star, let alone 4-star recruits. Most of their recruits are 3 and 2-stars. So what does that say about recruiting classes.

Enjoy Ronald Powell from SoCal. I'm a big fan of the local high school teams. He is the real deal.

...for the next couple of years & loose a few recruits because of ncaa violations...

lame kiffen can recruit, but can he win, now w/less ellible bodies to recruit, & others who won't go their because no bowls or maybe tv.....

i could be wrong though, guess we should know by summer, doesn't look good though.

ps

boise state in the acc or pac 10 would be 9-3, oregon being one of their pac wins, lol....
boise state blews! ;-)

I rarely agree with Joe Theisman, but in this case he's right.  Meyer's best QB success story is Alex Smith who's a journeyman at best in the NFL. Expect the same from Tebow.

There is nothing wrong with simply being a dynamic college player. And that is what Tebow is and has always been; one of the best collegiate athletes we have seen in awhile. He is a two time first team All American, and the recipient of numerous awards. He led his to team to two national championships. A true winner.

But for the past few years, everyone (i.e. media, fans, NFL pundits) has expected and demanded that Tebow be something that he is not; namely a top tier NFL prospect. Because he won a Heisman and because he was the QB on national championship teams, he is automatically expected to be next in line in the long litany of great NFL QB's. The pressure to raise his game to this level has been unfair. But, as they say, it goes with the territory.

I look at Tebow the same way I looked at Charlie Ward in the early 90's. A great college player who may or may not have the skills to be great in the NFL. We should celebrate Tebow's collegiate accomplishments, not criticize him for failing to be a top tier NFL prospect.
