I would almost like to make a note of this post so in one year you are reminded that you were possibly predicting "the end of right wing radio."

Even your understanding of the audience is typical.  All old white Christian guys.  And that is how he became the media sucess that he is.

Now I want to be clear:  I rarely listen to him.  In the car, I have mostly music stations.   So this isn't a personal preference.  

But if you think he is going away, I want some of what you are smoking.

The old method of judging ratings consisted of doing phone surveys. This highly skewed the results, as people were most inclined to tell people the big names of who they listened to. Rush, Howard Stern, and the like.

Factor in the business environment we're in, advertisers don't want to be linked to anything negative. They'd rather just continue business as usual. That's not good news for right wing hate radio.

Will it go away? Hardly. Hell, Coast to Coast AM is still on the air broadcasting their UFO conspiracies, and hardly anyone listens. Moreover, due to podcasting, more and more broadcasters are turning to listener subscriptions as a primary revenue stream.

I said highly IMPROBABLE end of talk radio, which means highly unikely, or do you need definition of "improbable" ? However, as stated before, with mass natl. ad exodus, not impossible.

Polls show overwhelming listening demographic are older, angry, white Christian guys; do you realize what a large slice of population that is & how much ad $ can be made off them ?

As for Rush, he's like Dracula; if his fat ass is thrown of AM, sure he'll find a spot on satellite with Howard Stern whose company he richly deserves.

Feminist activists Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinem are calling for the FCC to take action against Rush Limbaugh.

Should the Federal Communications Commission kick Rush Limbaugh off the airwaves because of his harsh speech? That’s what Gloria Steinem, Jane Fonda, and Robin Morgan are calling for in an opinion piece published today by CNN.

Ms. Steinem, Ms. Fonda, and Ms. Morgan are a trio of famous feminist activists, of course. Steinem is cofounder of “Ms. Magazine,” among other things. Fonda was, well, Jane Fonda – do we really need to say more? Morgan was a “Ms.” editor. Together the three are partners in the nonprofit Women’s Media Center.

“He promotes language that deliberately dehumanizes his targets,” they say.

If pressure on sponsors does not cause Clean Channel Communications to drop Limbaugh’s show, then the FCC should step in, Steinem, Morgan, and Fonda argue. Radio stations are supposed to use their licenses “in the public interest.” If enough listeners complain about Limbaugh, then the stations that carry him could be denied license renewal, according to the three women.
