Of course, I plan a last minute trip to my favorite city in the world and there is the NAFTA stuff going on downtown.

I'm planning on OakBrook but I would consider going to downtown perhaps AFTER the event is over.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me?  I've read in the Chicago Tribune that streets in downtown Chicago (and museums!) are going to be closed for this event coming up this weekend.

Any other useful information would be appreciated!

On the other hand, I could just go downtown and join the fray!

Hugs,
Elisabeth

I think your biggest problem will be booking a hotel downtown.  Oak Brook and the other suburbs should be fine.

It's totally calm right now in the north-east loop.

There's heightened police presence on streets in the loop, in office buildings, at hotels, etc.

I haven't even seen any protestors...and neither have people I know who worked in the loop.

It really seems as though the media etc. were overreacting.

Take Public Transit, do not walk in the direction of smoke, fire, screaming, or tear gas, all will be well.

Yicks.  I should KNOW better!

Well, because I was curious, I hired a taxi to drive me around downtown on Sunday afternoon.  The police presence was there and there really wasn't a way to get close to the protesters unless I wanted to make an afternoon of walking out of it.

And frankly, I had other things (and people!) to do.

I'm in downtown NOW and all is back to normal.  But boy, on Sunday afternoon, things were really quiet in certain areas.  And many roads were blocked off.

In hindsight, what I've heard if that I got in before a bunch of traffic mess that happened later in the day.

A big thanks to all that responded!!!

Sincerely,
Elisabeth
