Re: Isn't paid subscription more about the reviews, than about the boards?

Sounds like you want to not renew to "show em!" for changing the format. As others have stated there's no real correlation between use of the boards and vip. Just suck it up. The old website was kinda crap. It was just crap you were used to and comfortable with. The new site is also kind of crap. You'll get used to navigating this eventually too....

My membership expired today.  I have been a VIP member since 2004.  I joined after getting ripped off in Santa Fe.  I could look on TER and find out what services are available and the evaluation of the services.  I have had a few "that's not available anymore", "only for regulars", etc. but, for the most part the reviews are helpful.

For me. an important aspect is the discussion boards.  It was really important when i was traveling 4-5 days a week, just to gauge the local scene including LE activity.

The review portion of the Beta site is OK.  I can probably get used to the format; however, the discussion board portion sucks.  I am not sure I can ever get used to the format.

What is the general feeling about paying for a service that is in the process of being downgraded?  If I could have my choice of classic or Beta, I would renew in a New York minute but, I am not sure if I have to put up with the Beta discussion board.

The beta site wasnt friendly to me. I like the classic site and thats what I have bookmarked on my bat phone. I hope they never do away with the classic site.

What discussion ?   Im sure you remember back in the good old days when there were guys that posted things that were interesting and you could actually discuss. Now its just a bunch of  "In search of " posts.
Stick to the reviews ,at least they're worth the price of admission . Well at least most of them anyway.   There are a lot of things I think they could have done better with the new format , but most of my suggestions fall on deaf ears.  In my opinion they went backwards instead of forwards.

Yeah, I agree golf, there used to be more discussion and less ISO.  I would point out that reports of the LE activity in MoCo was at least a heads-up for guys passing through.  When I was traveling to a new place, I would go through their boards and fine this kind of information.  Much easier with the classic site.

In the end it may be a matter of whiskey/tango/foxtrot, renew and if it is still on my nerves next year, I can always drop out next year.

Regarding your comment, "most of my suggestions fall on deaf ears", that is the case with most of the members.  I have seen very few positive comments on the Beta site so; most suggestions are falling on deaf ears.

the good ol' days. I've tried to get some fun things going but mostly just the ladies get involved, which is nice. So, why doesn't someone start a subject that the cell phone self-centered crowd would find interesting enough to discuss? Example: I notice someone requesting 'face sitting', one of my favorite subjects. A new thread on the pros and cons, who does and doesn't. how to and how not to, what wine goes best with face sitting...

Never mind that you don't like the discussion boards, as I don't think being a paid member vs free member impacts what information you see here or how it's presented.

If you find the information in the reviews to be important, then what should determine your decision as far as renewing. Never mind the format since you will have to get used to it either way (and you said you probably can), but do you find the actual content valuable and/or is there another place you can get the same information from?

The boards (whether you like the new format or not) are free. The reviews and the ability to PM other TER users are what you are paying for. FWIW, I don't care for the new format either, but your decision to renew should be based on whether or not you continue to get value from the paid services (reviews mainly).

Process change typically takes about 6 weeks, then people settle in.

If you plan on continuing in the hobby, I would recommend renewing, too much at stake not to.

Just my .02

Anytime I want to see a review. I just update ladies ad website with newest link & get a couple of days VIP each. You get credited within 4-6hrs my experience.

Paying tends to be for on demand guys that can't wait...Have limited time...And don't want to review.

Just go to the top of the new site's opening page and click on "Discussion Boards." Then go to the bottom right of that page and click on the button that says "Classic Site."  Boom!  You're back in Classic.  How long they will keep the old site operating, no one knows.  But when they changed from the original TER back in 2010 the original site was still available for about six years.
Enjoy!

I sometimes miss the really old old site. But I gotta say, the new site is the most user friendly site TER's ever had.

The Beta site seems to have all the same features as the classic site once you get used to it. For example I thought the account manager link was missing on the Beta site and was ready to complain when I discovered that while it isn't so named by hovering over your user name in the upper right corner a menu appears with a link to account. I've found that between submitting reviews (15 days) supplying email, phone #'s or websites and problem reports (2 days) you can obtain VIP membership without having to subscribe. As for the discussion board it's the same on classic or Beta. It just depends on what the members choose to discuss.

Just curious how do you access the classic site?

Just go to the very bottom of the page and click the classis site tab.
