I can only tell you that Mother Nature has been very efficient in her design when it comes to procreation. Yes, 3-13 minutes is optimum for shooting some sperm into a vaginal canal. And if you think about it from an evolutionary standpoint, it makes perfect sense. It shouldn't take that long to get two horny young people going and blasting off, while saber-toothed tigers are ravaging the hutlet next door, and/or there's an angry caveman being cuckolded by someone with superior genes banging his Bertha.
As to sophisticated measures of sexual satisfaction, enjoyment, variation, etc., that's a completely different story. We're way beyond troglodytes at this point, but we still carry the vestiges of our biological past with us wherever we hump. I don't consider the act of having sex to solely include intercourse. If it's good we spend a lot more time licking, sucking , fondling, nibbling, laughing, kissing, tickling and just about anything else we can think of than we do concentrating on penile/vaginal penetration.
I don't need to read a book to know that longer foreplay is desirable. I've been conducting my own research study on this for 30 years...

It sounds like the 3-13 minutes guideline is for the actual intercourse part. The whole "sex" experience, therefore, should be much longer, especially as they encourage foreplay.
