New to the Hobby, and just wondering... what is the feeling on the risk of STDs? Assuming you use all appropriate measures... Just looking for general opinions, from Hobbyists and Providers.

I worked in a bar for years. Drunken civie girls can get pretty sloppy very fast. Many are not thinking of STD's when hooking up with a random dude. I've been there. I have had girls say "Just pull out. I want you inside me now! Or the best stupid thing a civie girl has said to me. "Don't worry, I'm on the pill."
If you use TER properly. Your chances of getting something are slim.
There is still a chance though. But there is also a chance you could be struck by lightning, or slip in the bathroom and bash your head and die.

The girls I associate with (non-bar environment) are incredibly safer than working girls. Then again, I socialize with women who go to church and involved with higher class activities than going down to the local dive and getting drunk with bartenders and teenagers.

If you are diligent in your research, you can minimize it. The previous posters made some good points. There are many threads on the newbie board about this topic. I have said many times that you are probably safer with a well-reviewed provider than with the hot chick you picked up in the bar. Providers can ill afford to not be disease free, esp if the hobby is their sole source of income. They will take all the necessary steps to protect themselves. Word to the contrary will get around very quickly if they are not clean. Civvie girls are not nearly as likely to be as cautious if they are just looking to get laid by some guy they let pick them up in a bar.
Even if the hobby is not a provider's primary source of income, she is less of a risk than the civvie girl I described above. Do the research on anyone you have an interest in. Read the reviews, if she doesn't have any, move on. As a newb, taking one for the team is not a good idea.
