quad band

If you travel the world you'd need a quad band phone and SIM cards for regional providers.

In addition to different frequency bands, there are different generations of services and each carrier has upgraded (or not) on their own schedule.   So it is a bit complicated trying to figure out what you need in any given country.

I don't know why, when i receive American customers i always have problems with their phones when they are outside US.
Not only with mobile internet, also with the roaming service and the SMS sometimes arrives and sometimes not.

Where is the problem? System Incompatibility? They don't pay for the service? Or simply the service that the companies provide is just bad? There're no plans for mobile internet and so at least you can use whatsapp or other app? Aren't travelers cautious and they don't activate international services? Wanna save some money?

It is really stressful, it drive me crazy, since to coordinate the appointments on this way let you without communication and they can only use the wi-fi in the hotel or trying to arrange the date by e-mail....

About a year ago I paid to ensure that my Verizon phone would work in Canada, but when I got there, I could never use it.

When I got back to the US I complained about it, and then the Verizon person asked if I ever adjusted the settings on my phone so it would work in Canada.  That was the first time anyone mentioned this to me.

It would have been nice if they had mentioned it at the time I made the arrangements.

I buy a 15 or 30 day international plan which gives me a really low rate per minute on phone calls, unlimited texting and 2-5 gigs if Internet use (the hotels I use all have free wi-fi so no need to load up on data usage with the phone provider).  As you move from country to country, sometimes your phone will connect automatically, and other times you will have to go into "Settings" and  set it up yourself, especially if there is a choice of more than one local carrier to connect to.

Europe and the US use different types of networks. I didn't think they could communicate at all, but I found that there can be some communication. However, the sound is awful. Some carriers have SIM's that will work on both types of networks.

well is pretty weird because bussiness men who travel around the world have to much problems to use the cell phone outside US. This situation is not happening with guys from the rest of Europe and Asia. And depend only to the hotel wi-fi is annoying, once you leave the hotel you're alone and without any way to comunicate the minimum problem.

There are two different systems used in the USA. CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) and GSM (Global System for Mobiles) are shorthand for the two major radio systems used in cell phones. Both acronyms tend to group together a bunch of technologies run by the same American entities.

The only other countries that have CDMA are parts of China and Japan. Every other country is GSM. CDMA was a fine system back in 1995 but is outdated.

To get perfect service throughout Europe you need a GSM capable phone that is "unlocked." Many Americans buy an "international plan" from their American carriers. In addition to being expensive it is not always reliable in every country and data is slow. T mobile is probably the best but it's "unlimited data" is dog slow outside the USA. Verizon is spotty. It might work well in some countries but is almost useless in other countries.

A smart traveler will pay about 6-10 Euro for a Sim card for that country. Most have unlimited text and 2500 minutes of talk time and 1GB of data at 4g speeds. A quality unlocked GSM phone will have all the frequencies you need all over the world. These types of phones are the only phones that should be used outside the USA.

You simply buy a Sim card for that country , pop it in and 30 seconds later you have perfect coverage. You also have a local number for people to call you back. A Sim card bought in the UK will usually work in most of western Europe but if I'm going to Amsterdam or Spain I will buy Sim cards for those countries to assure perfect coverage.

The men you are seeing from those other countries in Europe have fully compatible phones. Most American phones are not compatible and  most Americans just don't know any better.

yes I think the companies never warn and people have the news once in Europe and can't do nothing about it more than buy a local sim card for a couple of days.

They will tell you if your phone works in the country when are signing up for international service. They do a check on your phone type. I know with iphone 6 of a sugarbabe phone I got for her, she had no issues in Haiti recently.

Or at least Verizon sure seems to have a problem with her. lol

Hey Chicken Little, don't you live in her area? She seems about your type, well except for her price point that is. Maybe if you liquidated your portfolio you could go see her and report back to the class whether or not she has gotten THAT bad?

You guys have been going at it as long as I can remember.

He is one of the persons that attacks people on things he disagrees with. They are controversial issues.  I have a past of warning people about LE issues, STD safety issues, and other things that cause problems in the hobby. That is why they gave me the nick name chicken little. So what he and others try to do is go on attack all the time. I have even made some suggestions on how people can better there selves and attacks come. In the long run the truth always win.

Sometimes I post things such as suggesting to invest in penny stocks which is down right dangerous and risky. He attacked me on that and rightly so, because people might take my suggestion and do it and loose a lot of money.

He also likes to confuses the issue. I was talking about Verizon the carrier and not the board reviewer lol.  I did find his post humorous but in bad taste, tsk, tsk, lol.
