...this is a common problem in marriages. Oddly, it does not mean the marriage is a failure.  Other factors including children make life far less black and white than the world you seem to inhabit.

...if a husband has sex many many times with his wife, and then wishes that it would continue for years, and delights in it when it does occur, albeit rarely, the question becomes obvious...why?  Why does she want it less?  Why does he still want it as much?  What you are refering to is different.  IT is a relationship in which the excitement of sex wears out.  This is quite different than being wrapped up with the children, tired from day-to-day life that is so much more complex than being the single guy.  

By the way, how do you know Smelly's personality?  Really?

Kids are better off dealing with divorce than living with unhappy parents. Smelly is not getting enough sex and home and that is a problem for him. It is hard for me to imagine that a human being that is grossly unhappy about one important facet of their life will not radiant that unhappiness to others, especially children. Divorce very well can be the best choice.

I find that while sex with the wife may be all to rare (although still very hot), she usually makes it very clear that she wants a steamy session just before I leave for a business trip.  I am 99% sure she is unaware of my hobby life, and far too modest to think that she thinks that some lovely lady is going to pick me up in a bar, but she is so consistent about this, I wonder if it is some sort of 'keep your mate' instinct in action?  Do other married hobbiests have similar experiences with the wife?

I'd have to say that while my experience is very similar, the steamy sessions with your wife usually take place just AFTER you leave for the businss trip, rather than just before.  Other than that its exactly the same!

Being the perspicacious individual that you are, it is not wrong to assume that your SO is exhibiting tendencies which arouse a modicum of suspicion on your part. You may be 99% certain that she is unaware of your participation in the hobby. Albeit, the super sex before a business trip may be a perceived stop-gap measure for her. The logic being that if you're not horny, you'll return nice and chaste. Since most woman don't understand the male mindset any better than we understand theirs, her assumption may have validity in her mind. From everything I'm used to seeing on the board, it's gratifying to know that your SO does, in fact, do you now and then! Hope you don't mind that I chimed in, since I really don't have a dog in the fight, and you post was directed to married men.
