I have always taken it to mean a real porn star. What you might not realize is that there are the FAMOUS porn stars and the not-so-famous porn stars.
Someone who did one grainy B&W Super-8 film (film, not video!) 35 years ago and was credited as "The Girl" is a porn star (or former porn star). Some contemporary Providers have made a couple of skin flicks, maybe even without BBFS, maybe just looking sexy or providing HJ, and you will never find those vids on the main porn sites. Some Providers make their own videos / porn, sometimes "custom" vids for fetishists; not a lot, but enough to be a porn star. They are still Porn Stars, if they want to be known as such.
Some girls get caught up in the alleged "glamour" of being a PS, go to FL or CA, make a video and find out that it's not what they want to do. Their vid is out there, but they are no longer making porn: still a porn star.
You could try paring things down with more filters. "porn star yes" and "$1000 to ____ " should eliminate the BP girls who once made a 5 min video.
Maybe you can make a Suggestion to S&P: "instead of Porn Star Yes/No, make it
Porn Star Famous/Not so famous/No

So I tried to read through the general and newbie board so sorry if this is answered...
In advanced search what does the "porn star" check box actually mean?
It can't possibly mean PSE, because if you do a search with this checked it bring up a fairly high percentage of non-porn stars?
How does one search real porn stars (I'm pretty sure I'm not just failing to recognize all of these names)?
My honest opinion and some people can say otherwise but it kind of falls into the category of swingers and hot wives who have a taste for getting gang banged by groups of guys.
I would not call them porn stars, these are just more like easily brained washed wives or girlfriends .
I was a member of a yahoo group back in the early 2000's and this one guy would schedule several women for what I would call gang bangs and I did videotape a few of them and actually had my pick of them for 1 on 1's as well
But I think this has become overblown and just another means for inflating hobbying costs.
But that is just my opinion.
