If one wants to use this board as microcosm, then that certainly applies. SOME righties on this board take the posts FAR too seriously, are overly sensitive & would cringe at the thought of
self-deprecating humor. But since they practice Social Darwinist/survival of the fittest/Ayn Rand
philosophies, a sense of humor would be considered a liability/weakness for these would-be Niestzchean "ubermenches".

The fact that righties can be humorless tight-asses can be illustrated by the amazing dearth of right-wing comedians out there. Besides Dennis Miller & PJ O' Rourke, can anyone name any conservative comedians ?

Lastly, my advice for conservative board sourpusses : talk to your Dr. about recommending a good laxative------;)

It humanizing someone, and shows one doesn't take themselves too seriously. One might have also noticed that a certain former President often cracked jokes, but never about himself. It's one thing to do this every once in a while, but to do this constantly demonstrates that one is mean-spirited, and ultimately, insecure about themselves.

There are few conservative comedians for the same reason that there are few conserative actors, musicians, or entertainers. Creative and artistic people tend to be liberals. The right hemisphere of their brains are dominate, which is why they're creative, messy, not prone to be punctual, and are more open to abstract ideas and other cultures.

People who are left brain dominate tend to be conservative, are more likely to be tidy, be right handed, feel it necessary to organize their lives around repeated rituals, feel that society must be arranged around a pecking order, and are generally harder workers.

This is why PW finds jokes about the mentally handicapped distasteful, while I find jokes attacking another specific person distasteful. You won't see PW making light of himself, while Willy will have no problem doing such a thing.

You just described my two sisters who are as liberal/progressive as it gets, and both are artists. I won't even volunteer my time and knowledge to help them with their small businesses. They are totally dysfunctional, and refuse to listen when it comes to basic business processes, structure, discipline. If I did try to help them, after a couple of days someone would be dead, and it won't be me. (lol)

Not sure which former President you were referring to but in recent times, the only ones that I can recall who regularly poked fun at themselves and enjoyed self-depracating humor were President Bush 43 and President Reagan.Yep, a couple of conservatives that had a great sense of humor.

I can laugh at myself probably more than any of the ridiculous and arrogant liberals on this board.  Shit, if you can't laugh at yourself, then you can't laugh at anyone.

And anyone who thinks that jokes about the mentally handicapped are NOT distasteful is clearly a mentally disturbed person himself.  Nothing on this earth is more despicable than people laughing at others who were born with one of the most severe and damaging illnesses the world has ever seen.

After seeing some of the so-called "funny" comedians whose work you have linked in previous posts, it is quite apparent how poor your taste in real comedy truly is.

Your sense of humor is cruel, distasteful and infinitely immature.  And your arrogance is even worse.

I don't go the theater to watch movies anymore so I didn't plan on seeing it until it was released on video anyway.  

Did not expect it to be very good.  After all, you can't re-create genius and greatness on film just like the Republicans can't come up with another Ronald Reagan.  Some things are just unique in their brilliance!
