1. Why did Aetna and a bunch of other insurance companies pull out of Iowa for 2018 insurance year ?
2. Why did United Healthcare pull out of all the Obamacare exchanges ? You would think if they were making a profit they would stay in the exchanges.
3. Do you think they pulled out for political reasons (mergers where not allowed) and Trump told them to pull out (conspiracy) ?
4. Do the larger insurance companies favor corporate insurance plans over the individual market ?
They pulled out because they got more unhealthy people on board who had pre existing conditions and could not get coverage before. That made their payments overtake premium income.
If the new health care plan whatever it is called retains the pre existing condition mandate, same thing will happen. Difference the FED will go in to more debts as individual mandate will be gone and income from that as tax will be gone.
Either way, the system is screwed.
The aca tax was major source of revenue. It will be interesting too see what happens with the money being left in the pockets of those tax payers that don't pay the ACA tax.
Iowa just lost 2 or their 3 insurance companies...Blue Cross and Aetna. The other is still evsluating their remaining. If not a 'death spiral', what do you call it?
