Shallow end or Deep end?

But first, your handle is "real" (not an alias) and is not attached to a Profile. Do you actually have a Profile and reviews? It will be hard to attract TER traffic w/o some sort of TER presence.

Some people suggest starting to tour at the shallow end of the pool, in a city close to home base. Driving distance. That way, you remain close to your friends and support system in case you need their backup. Left your wallet on the kitchen table, need some cash, lost your wallet on the road, car broke down, ... not getting business, feeling lonely, want some company on the trip home.

Others just take a dive into the deep end and buy a plane ticket to a city they've never been to before and hope for the best. (I guess it does help if you have friends at the destination.)

Check the Local Discussion Boards of where you want to go. I have never seen a thread that began, "I have too many clients! Help!" but look for the "Is it slow for you, too?" posts. The replies are sometimes helpful, with local info. There might also be discussion of local LE activity that can affect biz.

Find out what's going on in the city you plan to visit before making the trip. Local news and events can tie up hotel rooms, discretionary funds, and so on. A major sports event (opening day), a major convention or rock concert, a local news event (bridge closings; transit strike) can affect biz.

No matter where you go, I think that a TER Profile will provide helpful credibility.

EDIT: Just noticed this on the General Board:

Now that I'm officially indie, I kind of want to do some traveling and do some touring in some major cities and do some sightseeing while I'm at it since I'm in between apartments for the next month. So I guess this is a kind of vague question of how you gals (and guys) do it? The ones that travel? How do you save money? Do you charge different prices for different cities? Anything helps! Thanks :D client input is awesome too! Clients, do you like to see girls out of town?

Some ladies can fly by the seat of their panties, advertising with just a week's or even a couple days' notice, and still be successful.

However, I typically have much more success when I begin hyping my visit at least 3 weeks in advance.

Plus, booking hotels months prior can mean you lock-in a lower rate (not always, so pay attention when booking!) than what you might get when booking within a week.

I personally find that when I'm going to be staying more than one night, it's less expensive to pay for a room with at least a microwave & refrigerator (if not a kitchen or kitchenette) and heat up microwave meals than to go out to eat  every night.

I also bring my snacks, bottled water, tea bags, etc. from home not just to save money, but so that I know I'll be able to have what I want.  You can't always find certain things easily in different markets, you know. ;-)

Please feel free to PM or email me with any questions, as I'm always willing to help!

Good luck!!!  :-)

If you have ter reviews get them linked to your ter handle. If you don't have reviews, you might wait to tour until you have reviews. Many guys are reluctant to see unreviewed providers.

First of all if you have reviews you definitely need to link them to your screenname!  People will be wary of traveling providers who advertise with no reviews.

Then try to get on the provider board...there is a wealth of information about what cities are profitable and what neighborhoods you should get your hotel in and ect.

Your rate in each city will usually correlate with the cost of living.  It's helpful to see what others charge and get a rough average and price yourself accordingly.  I charge $250 here in NC but if I decided to work in NYC I would likely charge $350-$400 since hotels are so expensive.

Find out the most popular advertising sites in each area and place ads in advance.

Some ladies like to check out the unemployment rate and average income of the city they are going to which can be helpful.

Save money by booking hotels with a discount site like Priceline and getting ones with a microwave and fridge and if possible a laundry facility.  Dining out and buying new clothes to replace dirty ones really adds up.

Don't carry a bunch of cash in your purse/wallet!  Try to deposit it or get money orders as soon as you can.  Robbers and LE alike target visiting ladies because of their cash flow.

Money paid bills.

I feel super late in the reply to my own post but I have reviews from other sites, I am pretty new to TER, I have a p411 but do not have a site yet! Does linking my reviews from other sites help?

Thanks for all of your replies guys! :)

I think that advance advertising can be a good thing if done properly.  A few weeks -- 2 or 3 maybe, but not much more than that -- in my view.  I just don't think that anybody is going to pay attention to ads 3+ weeks out.  More than 2 weeks out is a stretch for most people.  Most people probably plan 1-10 days out at most.  I think that many ladies make the mistake of advertising several weeks out to see if they get any bites and/or enough contacts to justify the trip.  But I personally think that is a mistake.
