Since the thread mentions May dates....
May in the two most southerly coastal regions of York County Coastal (Kittery, York, Kennebunk) and Cumberland County Coastal (Portland, where everyone here is probably thinking of going to) is probably like April is to you in northern Virginia.
I travel up to Kittery often (from Connecticut) and that region is just so nice during all four seasons.
Kittery is the southern most small town in Maine. Portland is where you want to go for the biz I guess. Excel is the expert on that however. But, across the river from Kittery is a hidden treasure for many of us Southern New Englanders: Portsmouth New Hampshire. I don't know how it is for our hobby biz, but it is so delightful as a small city, and the downtown nightlife is vibrant with many people out on the streets on weekends much of the year.
Actually, I wish I was there now... been nursing my first severe head cold in many months this current week and I wish I was up near the water getting better -- for some reason I keep thinking that being by the ocean feels better when you are sick .. lol. Who knows.

Your right on the money noonie .portland is the city for the biz but the further north you go the cooler the weather remains. I'm an hour north of Portland. I desperately am hoping that on my birthday mar31 I can get my Harley davidson out for a spin. April has cool 30-40 deg. Nights and high 40 to 50 deg. Days . May add 10 degrees to previous numbers .I hope some of you wonderful warm blooded southern will come for a visit this summer.
I appreciate everyones interest in visiting Portland. I do hope my schedule coinsides with your plans.

I was thinking of visiting Portland. What is it like? Is le tolerant? Is it busy there?
All depends on where you end up. If you're out by the mall/airport area, it's not too busy. If you're in-town in the summer, there's lots of tourists in the Old Port because that's where the cruise ships come in, but there's more to see and do.
