Having the full (paid) VIP is great for screening for us. We can take a peek at how &who you review, how long you have been writing reviews, as well as view your whitelistings. Sometimes I will search a handle of a gentleman contacting me on the discussion board to get a better idea of his personality and how/what he posts in general. Sometimes that makes me want to book with him and others, well, there's a few that have been added to my DNS list based off of the way they talk to & about women. With the limited provider VIP we can read and respond to pm's, but do not have access to any of the other benefits of VIP such as alias posting and specific searches. What do they get from this?
They can then read all details of all reviews, so if they want to read someone's reviews before seeing them they can do that.
They can also search on and see all details in provider profiles, which may be useful for competitive analysis.
And it may have entertainment value. I know at least a couple of providers who found some reviews (not mine!) so erotic that they used them for "spark" for their personal funtimes. 
And there's probably other uses...
Providers get limited VIP that includes PMs when they link their handle to their profile with review(s).
Providers who aren't reviewed here but want PMing and the other VIP features would need to buy VIP or get the points some other way.
Additionally I don't think the limited VIP includes use of an alias, so that would be another reason providers might want to get full VIP.
